Ford Prefect is a reporter for the HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy. He came down to Earth to research the
planet to add to the guide. He intended to stay for 1 week, but instead was stranded there for 15 years.
During hid time stranded there the only addition he made to the guide was instead of the Earth being
described as 'harmless' it was described as 'mostly harmless'.
While stranded on Earth, he befriended a man named Arthur Dent who had no idea the Ford was from a small
planet in the vicinity of Betelgeuse.
He eventually revealed this to Arthur when they escaped from the Earth just as it was destroyed by a fleet
of Vogon ships, to make way for a new hyperspace bypass. The only beings to escape this were Arthur Dent,
Trillian, 2 mice and some Dolphins
