Agent Smith and the other agents are super powerful products of a single-minded computer network. They
don't actually
have bodies, but they jump into the bodies of people within the Matrix. Though they all seem to have free
will, the feckless, semipsychotic Agent Smith sees himself as a prisoner within the Matrix.
