Frik is a sardonic shape-shifting gnome who, at the instruction of pagan Queen Mab (ruler of elves, fairies
and
magic) strenuously tries to instruct the young Merlin
in "The Old Ways."
When Frik first appears, he seems to be just an ugly gnome. Later, when Queen Mab takes an interest in
Morgan Le Fey, he performs a startling transformation on himself, turning into a handsome swashbuckler and
charming Morgan le Fay with the ultimate mortal possession -- beauty. Frik's romance with Morgan has a
surprising element of selfless love to it
and he never loses his human touch (if that is at all possible for a gnome).
As Mab's lackey he is adorable, crowling for Mab as long as she is around, cursing her as soon as she is out
of
sight. Unfortunately for Frik, Mab never is really out of sight.. or is she? Whole the time Frik is loyal to
Mab, following her every command, even if she does not deserve it. In the end she betrays him: he is to
wander the world without any possibility of magic.
