Colleen McMurphy
China Beach
Head nurse at the 510th Evac Hospital, China Beach, in 1967, the willful Colleen McMurphy sees her
role in Vietnam to be less about the Army and more about the men - the wounded she sends back to the war, or
"The World," and the dying, for whom she is the last face they will see. She is a woman proud of
her composure and careful in her
moral convictions, compassionate, but capable of a scathingly condemning glance.
Her smalltown, Catholic upbringing often conflicts with the realities she faces in a war zone in the late 60s.
